Monica Villarreal, the main character in the webcomic Wapsi Square, is just your average anthropologist working for a museum who happens to be friends with an ancient Aztec deity. A slice of life/supernatural webcomic set in modern Minneapolis, Wapsi Square was launched by Paul Taylor in 2001 and has developed a cult following.
Monica’s devoted fans came out in force to vote for her in the Lulu Awards, and she’s our Best Female Character for 2009.
